Halibut & Rockfish Trip

Rockfish are plentiful, aggressive, and usually easy to catch, they also make excellent table fare. There are over 20 different species commonly caught here in Homer. Black rockfish are the most commonly caught, ranging between 1 and 10 lbs. We also catch non-pelagics such as the Yelloweye, China, Quillback, Copper, Silvergray and Tiger.

2021 Halibut Regulations have not yet been released.

Rockfish Limits: 5/person/day. (ADF&G regulations)

Salmon & Rockfish Trip

This is a great option for the days we are not allowed to keep halibut (2021 IPHC regulations have not been released yet). This trip allows us to go out to areas typically less visited where we can target multiple varieties of rockfish. In the summertime, these areas are typically teeming with silver, pink and king salmon.

2021 Halibut Regulations: 2/person/day, one any size and one 32” and under.

Salmon Limits: dependent on area fished, 6 salmon total is allowed per person. (ADF&G regulations)

Get to know your rockfish…

Yelloweye – The largest species of rockfish typically caught in our area. They can exceed 20 pounds.

Copper – Found in shallower reef structure, not regularly caught.

Tiger – A solitary rockfish, where the other species are commonly found in schools, not frequently caught.

Quillback – A smaller species of rockfish and the most commonly nonpelagic caught.

China – One of our small nonpelagic species that is frequently caught. Easy to identify with its striking yellow on black coloring.

Black (Dusky) – By far the most common rockfish you will catch out of Homer. These pelagic rockfish school heavily on rocky structures and can be easily caught (most days!).
